Introduction

Have you ever considered orthodontics but would like a shorter treatment time? There’s a solution! There are several methods of Accelerated Orthodontics available to orthodontists, depending on the complexities of teeth movements being desired. Read on for descriptions of a couple of these accelerated approaches available at Koh Orthodontics.

What is Accelerated Orthodontics and how does it work?

One common form of Accelerated Orthodontics is the use of vibration enhancement during treatment, especially with Invisalign. Here at Koh Orthodontics, Dr. Koh uses the VPro5 system by Propel for patients. VPro5 is designed to help improve the seating of Invisalign aligners (trays) to ensure better tracking of teeth and bites towards treatment goals. If it is appropriate to use vibration, treatment may be shortened by up to 50%. In fact, for certain bite problems, Invisalign with vibration enhancement has allowed orthodontists to treat certain cases simply and safely where traditional braces would have required jaw surgery. Interestingly, another very common benefit is that consistent use of the VPro5 increases comfort with the wearing of the aligners.

For significantly complex malocclusions (bad bites), Periodontally Assisted Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO) has been shown to be extremely effective in treatment. In such cases, Dr. Koh carefully coordinates treatment with a periodontist (a gum specialist). The periodontist uses simple surgical procedures to activate the bone that surrounds the teeth. PAOO works very well with both Invisalign and braces, and allows Dr. Koh to safely accelerate teeth movements. In many instances, PAOO reduces both treatment time and helps patients avoid far more invasive surgical procedures.

How do I know if Accelerated Orthodontics is the right choice for me?

VPro5 works in conjunction with a wide array of braces types, including Invisalign, to correct various orthodontic concerns. VPro5 is a clinically proven tool for success and can be used on up to 80% of patients who require orthodontic treatment.

PAOO would be limited to very complex treatments, but if indicated, can be a difference maker in treatment times and results. Simple surgical enhancement of orthodontic teeth movement has long been studied, and PAOO represents the most current techniques in this field.

The best way to determine if either of the above Accelerated Orthodontic approaches is suitable for you is to visit an orthodontist with experience using VPro5 and utilizing PAOO, like Dr. Koh.
